Clarion Township first ward polling place set to move

CLARION - Clarion Township voters in the municipality’s first ward could be using a new polling place in the upcoming elections.

At the monthly meeting of the county commissioners March 11, the commissioners approved a motion to move the first ward polling place from the Assembly of God Church along Greenville Avenue to the Reinhardt Village leasing office located at 159 University Boulevard .

In a letter dated Feb. 27, County Director of Elections Ronald Kuzmovich asked the commissioners to move the polling place for four reasons.

First, the new polling place would be accessible to all of Clarion Township ’s voters. Second, it is accessible to Reinhardt Village residents.

Third, the new polling place has a paved parking lot and the building is handicapped accessible. Finally, the new location provides more space for additional voting equipment.

The motion was approved and has been sent to the Board of Elections for final approval.

In other business, commissioners :

Approved the Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry’s and the Clarion Hospital’s Spring Fling Committee request to use the Memorial Park April 27 through May 5 and the county parking lot May 3.

Approved a motion to move ahead with refinancing of the county’s 2002 and 2003 general obligation notes, originally issued at the principal amounts of $2,500,000 and $5,100,000, respectively.

Commissioners reviewed several proposals from various lending institutions interested in refinancing the bond issues. The proposals are being reviewed by bond counsel Charles Brodbeck and county finance director Donna Reinsel.

Approved a proclamation making March American Red Cross Month in the county.

Approved a $21,305 project grant for a court liaison for the drug and alcohol program from July 1 through Dec. 31.

Approved a $127,792 project grant for the Clarion County Treatment Court from July 1 through June 30, 2009 .

Approved PennDOT NBIS contract for Clarion County bridge inspections for the 2009, 2011, and 2013 bridge inspection cycle inspected by Widmer Engineering, Inc.

Approved placing surplus items no longer in use by the county offices up for bid. The items include computer equipment and are available for view on the third floor of the courthouse.

Approved a bid invitation for a surplus vehicle. The 2001 Chevrolet Impala has an odometer reading of 116,426. Bids with a 10 percent deposit are due to the chief clerk in the commissioners’ office at the courthouse by 4 p.m. April 4. Bids will be opened at 9 p.m. April 9 at the commissioners’ conference room at the courthouse. At the county Salary Board meeting:

Approved hiring Cynthia L. Kapp as clerk typist 2 at a rate of $8.38 per hour.

Approved promoting Jennifer S. Haight to county caseworker 2 at a salary of $25,227.

Approved level change for June K. Nolder from level 1 to level 3 at a rate of $11.06 per hour.

Approved level change for Brittany L. Coleman from level 2 to level 1 to replace June Nolder at a rate of $9.25 per hour.

Approved hiring Christina D. Rankin as drug and alcohol prevention specialist trainee at a salary of $19,518.
