Janet White   Riley

Born and raised in Clarion

HUNTINGDON BEACH , Calif. – Janet White Riley, 65, of Huntingdon Beach , Calif. passed away March 14, 2008 , after a brave fight at the Hoag Hospital in California .

Born and raised in Clarion, with her Catholic faith, Ms. Riley left her home town in 1961 to follow her dreams of modeling and starting a family in California , which she did.

The most important thing in Ms. Riley’s life was her unending love and devotion for her family and her many, many friends she met along the way.

She loved shopping and delighted in sending all the people she cared so much about “Goodie Packages” comprised of beautiful handcrafted items she made and the wonderful treasures she found while on her sprees. She never forgot to send her carefully chosen “Love Gifts” for every birthday and holiday.

Ms. Riley sadly leaves behind a special and very devoted daughter, Ms. Syndee White and her partner, Gary; three adoring brothers and wife’s, Robert and Kimberly Riley, Larry Riley all of Broken Arrow, Okla.,  William and Holly Riley of Clarion and one sister, Jodi Guthrie and her husband, James, of Tionesta who adored her “Sissy.”

Ms. Riley will also be missed by her aunts Gertrude Matthews and husband, Glenn, Joanne Riley, Fran Ganoe, Nola Riley and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Riley lived for many years with her devoted friend Jean Ermel until her death, as well as her faithful little Pekinese dog she adored and referred to as “Jan’s Precious Gizmo.”

Ms. Riley was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother Eugene and Anastaia Riley and a brother Eugene Riley Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 , from the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street , Clarion, with Father Monty Sayers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation for the Braille Institute of Southern California.

Frances H. ‘Helen’ Alden

FRANKLIN – Frances H. “Helen” Alden, 91, of Van, Cranberry Township , died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin, where she had resided since January 2007. Born November 12, 1916 , in Nickleville, she was the daughter of the late Lyle W. and Sarah Eva Shaner Bell.

Jay A. Amsler

CLARION – Jay A. Amsler, 98, of Knox, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , in the Golden Living Center , Clarion.

Paul ‘Jim’ Clawson Jr.

PITTSBURGH – Paul James “Jim” Clawson Jr., 61, of West Freedom, Clarion, County, died at 8:41 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 , at the residence of his nieces, Kelly and Paula Wilson, in Pittsburgh , following an extended illness.

Joseph F. ‘Joe’ Fowler

SLIGO – Joseph Frederick “Joe” Fowler, 83, of Chestnut Street , Rimersburg, passed away at 3:04 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 , in Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center , Sligo , where he had resided since March 5, 2005 .

James Newell Hosey

RIMERSBURG – James Newell Hosey, 97, of Long Lane East, Rimersburg, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , in the home of his daughter, Marsha Shick, surrounded by his wife, Pauline and his family.

Gerald D. Kirkpatrick

SLIGO – Gerald D. Kirkpatrick, 79, a former York and St. Marys resident, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , in the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Sligo . Born March 19, 1929 , at Strattanville, he was the son of the late John and Geraldine Yeany Kirkpatrick.

Wilbur Glen Smith

ELIZABETHTOWN- Wilbur Glen Smith, 83, of Elizabethtown , formerly of Harrisburg and Rimersburg, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 , in the Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown .

Nancy Pierce Vallimont

BROOKVILLE – Nancy B. Pierce Vallimont, 93, a resident of Jefferson Manor Health Center , Brookville, formerly of Corsica , died peacefully Wednesday, March 19, 2008 , in Jefferson Manor.
