General News A change is coming to your newspaper
CLARION - Readers of the Clarion
News will notice a difference in the feel of their newspaper
beginning March 27 as the pages of the publication will be slightly narrower. The Clarion
News, along with the Oil City-based Derrick and the Franklin-oriented
News Herald, have been, up to this time, some of the last remaining newspapers
in our area publishing on newsprint the size of this edition of this newspaper. Most newspapers across the country have already made the
change to the slightly narrower format. The change is being made mainly due to
the supply and demand of newsprint paper. The manufacturers of news print paper are slowly phasing
out the old width paper rolls. Most of the newsprint used in this country comes from mills
located in Consolidation of newsprint manufacturing ownership has led
large manufacturers to reduce newsprint manufacturing capacity and to switch
some plants from producing newsprint to producing higher-profit, higher-grade
paper. The change in the size of the newspaper’s width is the
first the Clarion News has had to make in about 30
years. As far as the change affects the readers of our newspaper,
the size and style of the print will not change. The only change noticeable to
readers should be the width of the text columns which will be slightly narrower. The Clarion
News appreciates its readers and advertisers and looks forward to
continuing to offer a family- and community-oriented newspaper.
