General News Grease in sewers gumming up Sligo system
“We have been finding large deposits of grease in some of
the traps at the pump down by C&K, and I’ve had to use a lot of degreaser,
which could get expensive,” Myers stressed. Authority members discussed having some the grease sent to
a lab to be analyzed so the authority would have a better understanding of where
the grease is coming from. Also discussed was the sending of notices to authority
customers, warning against pouring grease down drains, which might be one source
of the problem. “We had problems like this about six or eight months
ago,” Myers said. “But it was all clear again until last week.” Also discussed at the authority’s meeting was the
advertising of a meeting to be held to discuss the need for a possible sewer
rate increase for borough authority customers. At the borough
council meeting held afterward: Borough council members said they were disappointed Clarion
County District Attorney Mark Aaron did not attend the meeting. Aaron was scheduled to discuss the duties of the
sheriff’s department with the council. Council members hope the sheriff’s department can help
with some of the borough’s law enforcement, since the borough cannot afford a
law enforcement body of its own. Additionally, the
council: Discussed the need for an Emergency Operations Plan
coordinator. The council has been seeking to fill this position for some months
and needs to update the borough’s emergency operations plan in coordination
with the larger hazard mitigation plan. Discussed holding borough clean-up day on either May 16 or
23.
