Local Residents save man from drowning in Millcreek
By Greg V. Renninger, Clarion News Writer

MILLCREEK TWP. - A 23-year old Clarion man was saved from disaster April 16 while fishing for trout along Mill Creek near lot 74 of the state game lands in Millcreek Township .

Tony Kennemuth of Fairmount City , and Justin McGinnis, Brady Martz, Tyler Skinner, and Tyson Shreckengost, all of New Bethlehem were fishing and came upon the scene by accident.

“It was between quarter of and quarter after six we were walking up the stream when one of my buddies said they saw someone laying in the creek,” Shreckengost told the Clarion News.

“So we took off running toward the guy, who was laying about 100 yards from the bridge,” Shreckengost said. “We pulled him out of the water and there was a lot of water coming out of his nose and mouth and he was unresponsive.

“We rolled him over and started CPR, and before too long he started to cough. So we got him up to the bridge so he could be taken to the hospital.”

While the rescue was going on John Morris of Sligo Volunteer Fire Company drove up the hill from the bridge to find cellular telephone service and call 9-1-1 for assistance.

“The men that found him in the creek and managed to resuscitate him are heroes and should be commended,” Jackie Cooney, Millcreek Volunteer Fire Company Chief told the Clarion News.

The man rescued has only been identified as a 23-year old Clarion area resident. No other details of the incident were available.
