CLARION – Centenarian Louise A. Henry, the last living member of her immediate family and matriarch to younger generations, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 , in the Transitional Care Center of the Clarion Hospital .

Known as Aunt Louise to both her family and friends, she was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Born July 29, 1907 , in Huey, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ricca Henry. Their last name of Enrieu was changed to Henry after the family moved from Montanaro , Italy , to America .

Ms. Henry never married. She led a simple yet rewarding life on the family homestead in Huey after moving there when she was two years old. The farm was her life. It was there she worked with her family raising crops, cattle, pigs, chickens and horses. Milking cows, gathering eggs and making butter were all part of a day’s work.

She loved her vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed baking and cooking. Everyone was always welcome for a hot meal and no one ever went hungry. Ms. Henry was known for her gnocchi and ravioli, which were a special treat at family reunions.

Ms. Henry also worked at Eccles Nursery weeding Christmas trees and in their greenhouse.

At the age of 92, she gave up the farm and coal furnace and moved to a mobile home in Rimersburg, where she lived alone and continued to garden and plant flowers. She still baked her own bread and canned the fruits of her labor.

She attributed her long life to hard work.

Ms. Henry’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. In the evenings she enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and reruns of Lawrence Welk.

Ms. Henry was a member of St. Richard Church in Rimersburg, where she was quite active. She was a member of the quilters group that met on Mondays and her baked goods, homemade dish cloths, hot pads and tea towels were always in demand for church bazaars and festivals.

Ms. Henry was the sixth of eight children. She had four sisters, Rose Birocco (Tony), JoAnn Lantelme (Levi), Margaret Aites (John) and Lena Zanot (Victor) and three brothers, Joseph Jr., Michael and Louis (Beatrice), all of whom preceded her in death along with three nieces, Marie Summerville, Patricia Raybuck and Judy Slaugenhoup, and two nephews, Joseph Birocco and Henry Lantelme.

She is survived by one niece, Joann Johnson and her husband, Todd, of Anacortes, Wash.; and two nephews, Gene Zanot and his wife, Deb, of Reynoldsville, and Thomas Zanot and his wife, Marion, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; 16 great-great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great-niece.

Also surviving is an “honorary” brother, Raymond Ginepro of Taylor , Mich. , and his family and their children; and her “adopted” family, Becky and Rocky Shick and their children, Brody, Shaley and Lexey.

Ms. Henry made “headlines” last year when she celebrated her 100th birthday with a surprise party at the Inne and Five Pointes in Sligo . She arrived at the party driving a horse and buggy, which was her one birthday wish. She also made her television debut on the Today Show, where she was featured on the Willard Scott segment.

Friends were received Sunday, May 4, 2008 , at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg. A prayer service was held during the evening visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, May 5, 2008 , at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church of Rimersburg with the Rev. William Kuba as celebrant.
