Fryburg celebrates expanded Mayfest


FRYBURG - Fryburg’s Mayfest 2008 is expanding this year to include a flea market along with all of the Washington Township ’s popular events, including a fireworks show.

Events begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 24, with yard sales throughout the Fryburg area. Maps of the yard sales will be available at Fryburg Old Treasures Depot, Schupps’ store and Sara Jane’s Deli.

Events and activities include:

Fryburg Sportsman’s Club

Starting at 7 a.m. breakfast will be served at the Club House in Fryburg. 

Chicken BBQ 

Mayfest Chicken BBQ hosted by the members of Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department.  Come out and enjoy a great meal.  Dinners will start being served at 11 a.m.

Washington VFD

All-day game booths, face painting, finger painting, fingerprinting provided by sheriff’s department, Chinese auction, rip-off tickets, bake sale, fire truck rides and display, Clarion Cycle ATV Display

Parade 

The Mayfest Parade is in the planning stages for the festival this year.  Parade will be starting this year 3 p.m. and will go from Old Fryburg Road through Fryburg and will end at the Guth Garage in Marble.  The theme for the parade will be “Celebrating hometown heritage and heroes” so starting thinking about float ideas now.

Yard sales

Sign-up sheets are available at Fryburg Old Treasures Depot, Sara Jane's Deli and Montana ’s Country Cafe. 

Do you live in Washington township?  Are you going to have a yard sale over the Memorial Day weekend?

If so you should sign up.  There is going to be a map made with all of the locations of the yard sales on it.  these free maps will be distributed at local business the before the day of the event as well as the day of the event.  

Flea market

Set-up will begin at 7 a.m. in the A.P. Weaver Memorial Field directly behind the Fryburg Old Treasures Depot in Fryburg.  Spots will be 15’x15’ and there will be a $5 donation to the St. Michael Knights of Columbus for each spot.

Spots are on a first come first serve basis so come early and pick a good one.  Access to the flea market area will be through the parking lot of the Fryburg Old Treasures Depot. For more information please call Faller at 354-2288

Fireworks 

Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and come out for the annual Mayfest fireworks.  Dr. Cartwright will once again show us his spectacular fireworks display at St. Michael’s Church at dusk.  This year the show will be bigger and better than the prior years.

A tailgate party before the fireworks is also planned for the event this year.

Refreshments will be available. DJ and Karaoke starting at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. until start of fireworks.

Car show and motorcycle cruise-in

The car show and motorcycle cruise-in is going to be held again this year in the parking lot of the church.  Dash plaques will be given to all entries and other door prizes will also be awarded. Starting at 10 a.m. till start of parade.

Other events through out town

Wagon rides through out town and local businesses sponsoring specials of the Saturday event.
