General News Farmington OKs water and sewer line construction contracts
Phase IV is expected include the area around St. Mary’s
Church and further north along State Route 66 to include two season camp
developments. The Phase IV expansion is expected to add about 52 new customers
to the system. Landmark Excavating of Waterford won the contract for line
installation at $867,010. Crane Pumps of Ohio won the contract to provide grander
pumps at a cost of $116,111. L/B Water Co. of Stoneboro won the contract to supply water
meters at a cost of $9,982. The contracts are pending approval by Rural Development, a
financing division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Township officials hope construction can begin within a
month. Current monthly water rates in the township are $45 and
sewerage service rates are $40. However, the state Public Utilities Commission
recently approved a rate hike for Pennsylvania-American Water, which provides
bulk water to the township for re-sale. Township officials are not sure how that increase will
affect township rates, and rising costs related to the existing system could
push existing water and sewerage rates higher next year. In other business, supervisors awarded a $125,875 contract
to Hager Paving of Strattanville for seal coating of various township roads.
