State police step up patrols in Farmington
By Rodney L. Sherman, Clarion News Editor

FARMINGTON TWP. - State police at Tionesta will keep a closer eye on speeding traffic along Greenwood Road in Farmington Township .

Cpl. Richard Douthit, standing in for new Tionesta station commander Sgt. Greg Kunselman, attended the July 2 meeting of the Farmington Township supervisors.

Representatives of the state police station usually visit the township meeting once or twice each year to hear residents’ concerns.

“We didn’t do a lot of business in Farmington Township in June,” said Douthit. “Which is a good thing.”

Douthit said state police troopers from Tionesta responded to 33 incidents in the township in June, including three criminal incidents and five vehicle crashes.

“The rest were minor incidents,” said Douthit.

Supervisor David Crise asked if troopers could increase their presence along Greenwood Road .

“It’s the same people every morning and evening, going to and from work,” said Crise.

Greenwood Road is a state road with a posted speed limit of 45 mph.

“I know the people along that road have called in about it several times,” said Crise. “And I know you guys have been up there several times, but it hasn’t been at the right times.

“I know it’s hard for you guys to be there all the time. I know you have a lot to do.”

Douthit said he would try to arrange more patrols along the road during the hours Crise suggested.

Township road master Francis Allio said he has noticed an increase in trash and junk strewn along Breezemont Drive and also noted speeding traffic along the road.

Douthit said it is hard to prosecute littering incidents unless a trooper actually sees the offense occur.

State police at Tionesta also responded to 19 incidents in Washington Township during the month of June.
