County approves Clarion polling location change

CLARION - Clarion Borough second precinct voters will be showing up at a new polling place to cast their ballots in the upcoming presidential election.

The Clarion County commissioners Sept. 23 approved a request from the Clarion County Election Board to move the polling place from its former spot at the Clarion Fire Hall to the Clarion Free Library.

According to county Voter Registration Director Sally Moore, the move comes for concern over safety in case the fire company would need to respond to an emergency on election day and accessibility and parking issues.

In other business, the commissioners :

Made a proclamation for the Knox Volunteer Fire Company in honor of the company’s 75th anniversary Sept. 23.

Made a proclamation for September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

Made a proclamation for POW/MIA Recognition Day, Sept. 19.

Approved a Mobilcom service proposal with the Office of Emergency Services for a backup radio console for the county park site. This console assures continuity of government in case of emergency and includes $17,746 worth of equipment and $2,880 in labor, bringing the total to $20,626.

Approved Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) to display the organization’s Silent Witness Exhibit in the lobby of the courthouse the week of Oct. 20 in honor of Domestic Violence Month.

Approved nurse’s contract between County of Clarion Corrections and Karen Rowen from Oct. 1 to Jan. 19, 2009 , 240 hours at $16 per hour for professional nursing services to the corrections facility. The maximum contract cost will be $3,840.

Approved Approved Digital Solutions Incorporated’s call recording agreement for the Clarion County Corrections Facility. The Inmate Telephone Incorporated (ITI) system will provide conservation recording and/or monitoring services for designated conversations made through or stored in the ITI system at no additional cost. The system comes with a free photo imaging system and features 48.5 percent billable on all calls.

At the salary board meeting, the board:

Approved hiring Laurie Summerville as district attorney secretary at a rate of $9.63 per hour.

Approved promoting Katherine Kaczmarczyk to full-time deputy sheriff at a rate of $9.46 per hour.

Approved hiring Corey King and John Esposito as corrections officer trainees at a rate of $8.90 per hour.
