Harold Alvin Flick

Former Clarion area resident

TITUSVILLE , Fla. – Harold Alvin Flick, 85, of Titusville , Fla. , formerly of Clarion, died Friday, December 26, 2008 , in Titusville .

Born October 15, 1923 , in Union , Ky. , he was the son of the late Tull Waring Flick and Maude Geneva Flick, nee Beemon.

He was married December 28, 1946 , in Clarion to the former Mary Alice Smith and she preceded him in death in 1987.

Mr. Flick was a manager for Seagram’s Distilleries. He then became the secretary of the Clarion Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in the establishment of the Autumn Leaf Festival over 50 years ago.

Mr. Flick headed the Hazleton Chamber of Commerce where he helped develop the CanDo Industrial Park . As vice president of the Toledo Foreign Trade Zone, Mr. Flick promoted expansion to the area. He was then promoted to vice president of site locations for major shopping malls for the Debartolo Corporation.

Mr. Flick established Site Finders Inc. setting up locations for over 100 Arby’s, Pizza Huts and Wendy’s. At one time he owned 13 Arby’s franchises before retiring to Ft. Myers , Fla.

Mr. Flick was of the Roman Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College , an officer in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and the Korean Conflict, a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of The Boone Society and numerous other genealogy societies. He enjoyed history, researching and recording family genealogy going back to the 1600s.

Mr. Flick’s favorite pastimes were reading, traveling and spending time with his family.

Mr. Flick is survived by two sons, William of State College, and John and his wife, Laura, of Roanoke , Va. ; two daughters, Linda Pagani and her husband, Wayne, of State College and Mary Westerman and her husband, Graham, of Snellville , Ga. ; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Flick is also survived by his long-time companion, Norma Pringle of Titusville , Fla. and her children, Mary Pringle (Richard Smith), Catherine Pringle-Witten (Norbert), Matthew (Julie) and William (Catherine), along with Ms. Pringle’s ten grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Flick was preceded in death by a son, Robert and a brother, Thomas.

Visitation was held Thursday, January 1, 2009 , at Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street , Clarion.

Funeral services with a Catholic Mass were held Friday, January 2, 2009 , at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Monty Sayers officiating.

Interment was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Clarion.

Daniel J. Hannah

Brookville native

TOMBALL, Texas – Daniel J. Hannah, 50, of Texas , passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009 .

Born in Brookville, he was the son of Anna Hannah of Brookville and the late Ralph Hannah.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Hannah is survived by his loving wife, Genia Hannah, children, Cory Kahle, Laura O’Quinn and her husband, Christopher, Shaun Hannah and his wife, Jessica and granddaughter Ava, and Natalie Fawcett.

Mr. Hannah is also survived by one brother along with numerous friends, the best neighbors and Naval Unit 1BV-15.

The family received friends Monday, January 5, 2009 , at the Klein Funeral Home, 1400 West Main Street , Tomball , Texas .

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 , at the Ignatius Loyola Church , 7810 Cypresswood Drive , Spring, Texas .

Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery .

Ruth Norman McCauley

Former Shippenville resident

CANTON , Ohio – Ruth Norman McCauley, 84, formerly of Shippenville, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 , in Canton Ohio where she had been living since May 2007.

Born November 27, 1924 , in Geneva , N.Y. , she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Zaynie Norman. 

She was married May 18, 1947 , to William Andrew McCauley and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1990 .

Mrs. McCauley was awarded a bachelor’s of education degree in June 1946, from SUNY College at Geneseo N.Y. She taught elementary school in New York and had been co-director of the Community Pre-School in Clarion. 

Mrs. McCauley served on the Clarion Free Library board of directors and was a member of the American Association of University Women.

Mrs. McCauley enjoyed travel, playing bridge and solving crossword puzzles. She loved to entertain and was happiest when spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. McCauley is survived by a son and his wife, Thomas McCauley and Belinda Massaro, of Reston, Va.; two daughters and their husbands, Janet McCauley Herrick and her husband, James Herrick, of Massillon, Ohio and Barbara McCauley Hankins and her husband, William Hankins, of Franklin; a brother, Abraham Norman of Elmira, N.Y.; two sisters, Helen Close of Big Flats, N.Y. and Martha Rashid of Bethesda, Md. and four grandchildren, Sara Snyder of Pittsburgh, Jennifer Herrick of Rockville, Md., Gregory Herrick of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Andrew McCauley of Reston, Va.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McCauley was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elias; two brothers, Joseph Norman and George Norman and an infant granddaughter, Amy Hankins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 , at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood St in Clarion.

A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m.  

The family suggests that contributions be made to the Clarion-Forest Visiting Nurses Association, P.O. Box 668 Knox, 16232.

Edward B. Servey

Former employee of Clarion Dry Cleaners, Kiser Coal and C&K Coal Companies

     CLARION – Edward B. Servey of Reidsburg, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009 , at the Clarion Hospital .

     Born September 29, 1928 , he was the son of  the late G. Frank and Goldie Belle Henry Servey.

     He was married October 13, 1958 , to the former L. Leona Space and she survives.

     Mr. Servey was a Corporal in the United States Army from 1950 through 1952, serving in the 109th Engineers in Germany and France during the Korean War.

     Mr. Servey worked for Clarion Dry Cleaners for 23 years and later worked for Kiser Coal and C&K Coal Company

     Mr. Servey was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Clarion, and the American Legion.

     In addition to his wife, Mr. Servey is survived by  two daughters, Peggy Gourley and her husband, Nobel “Punk,” of Reidsburg, Anita Hinkle and her husband, Jeff, of Emlenton; five sons, Tom Servey and friend, Cindy, of Sligo, Frank Servey and his wife, Lynn, of Hughey, Mark Servey and his wife, Liz, of Reidsburg, Bruce Servey and friend, Candy, of Clarion, Jack Servey and his wife, Gretchen, of Clarion; two step-sons, Dan Space and his wife, Pam, of Shippenville and Sam Space of Mercer.

     Mr. Servey is also survived by  17 grandchildren, Gavin, Jennifer Servey, Dennis Smith, Angela Servey, Alex “Bubba” Cherico, Kelly Servey, Katelyn Servey, Russell Hinkel, Michael Kitchen and wife, Jessica, Laura Maudlin and husband, Paul, Jason Kitchen and friend Courtney Gould, Debra Smith and husband Mike, Matthew Space, Daniel Space and wife, Crystal, Justin Space, David Space and Brynn Space, 12 great-grandchildren and five siblings, Jane Smathers of Limestone, Jessie Hartzell of Knox, LuLu Belle Dodd of Bruin, Edna Rhinehuls of Grove City and George Servey of Shippenville.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Servey was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Meier Smith, a brother, Harry Servey and a grandson Billy Servey. 

     Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 , at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street , Clarion.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 , from the funeral home.

     Interment will follow in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

Margaret ‘Peggy’ L. Stanley

Enjoyed baking and spending time with her family

MARBLE – Margaret “Peggy” L. Stanley, 90 of Marble, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009

Born June 23, 1918 , she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Black Tingley. 

She married George Stanley on April 16, 1947 , in St. Mathew Cathedral in Washington , D.C. , and he survives

Mrs. Stanley graduated in 1937 from Farmington High School in Leeper. Following graduation she worked at the Cook Forest Inn to earn money to attend the Hoff Business College in Warren . While attending college, she worked at the YWCA for room and board. After passing the civil service exam, she moved to Washington , D.C. and worked in the Pentagon.  

Mrs. Stanley met her husband at a USO dance at Fort Belvoir , Va. After they married, the couple moved to the Panama Canal Zone .

After working for 25 years as a civilian for the Army, Mrs. Stanley retired from the judge Advocate General’s office in the Chief of Claims Division.

Mrs. Stanley and her husband returned to Pennsylvania and enjoyed their retirement years in their home in Marble.

Mrs. Stanley enjoyed watching the New York Yankees with her husband, spending time with her family, working in her yard and baking.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stanley is survived by three children,  George Stanley and his wife, Marie, of Fresno, Calif.; John Stanley and his wife, Lynn, of Meridian, Idaho and Marty Collett and her husband, Bob, of Lucinda; nine grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Stanley, Kimberly, Heather, Holly, and Shanelle Stanley, Kelly Hart and husband, Bill, Christy Sample and husband, Jason and Katie Collett. Twelve great-grandchildren also survive with Blake and Brooke Hart and Brayden and Riley Sample living locally.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stanley is preceded in death by a brother Francis Tingley and a sister Harriet Nick.

Friends were received Sunday January 4, 2009 , at Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. Parish Vigil service were held Sunday in the funeral home. 

Mass of a Christian burial was celebrated Monday, January 5, 2009 , in St. Michael Church in Fryburg with Rev. David Poulson, pastor presiding. 

Burial was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Crown following the Mass.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

SEWICKLEY – Jean B. Baum, 77, of Imperial, formerly of Oil City , sister of Gladys Huffman of Knox, died Monday, December 29, 2008 , at Sewickley Valley Hospital in Sewickley.

CLARION – Mildred L. “Mid” Botz, 90, of Parker, died late Monday afternoon, December 29, 2008 , in Clarion Hospital , following an illness.

RIMERSBURG - Margaret A. Courson, 84, of 81 School Street , Rimersburg, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 , at her home.

SHIPPENVILLE – Nancy J. Dunkle, 66, of 1366 State Route 157, Oil City , mother of Kenneth E. Dunkle and wife, Gena, and grandmother of Devin J. and Kayla R. Dunkle, all of Knox, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 , at Golden Living Center near Shippenville.

KITTANNING – Lillian I. Guntrum, 71, of Lillian Lane , Rimersburg, Toby Township , Clarion County , died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2009 , at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning following a brief illness.

CLARION – Velma Lee Harkless, 71, of East Street , Callensburg, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 , of natural causes shortly after her arrival in the Clarion Hospital emergency room.

Gary W. Kriebel Sr.

CLARION – Gary W. Kriebel Sr., 66, of Dutch Hill, Perry Township , Clarion County , died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 , of natural causes, shortly after his arrival at the emergency room of the Clarion Hospital .

MARIENVILLE – James E. Schrecengost, 94, a lifelong resident of the Marienville area, died Tuesday, December 30, 2009 .

SENECA – Sgt. Christopher J. Smith, 25, of College Street , Emlenton, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 , at UPMC Northwest in Seneca following an extended illness.

SHIPPENVILLE – John H. Weaver Sr., 97, of Ninevah, Clarion County , died at 4:34 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 , at Golden Living Center near Shippenville.
