Thoughts on some issues
By Don Fetzer, Strattanville

Fuel prices: Those have asked -- Why are the gasoline prices here in Clarion higher than those in Brookville?

The last time I inquired about the gas prices at Sheetz, the employee stated it simple, no competition.

After watching these prices for a while via the Internet, I have seen as much as 29 cents different in a gallon of gasoline, with Clarion higher.

The last time there was an article in The Derrick, (where a spokesperson from Sheetz gave the reporter the run-around about the reason for higher gasoline prices for Clarion), the next day gasoline prices at one Clarion location dropped 18 cents.

Gee, wonder if they got caught gouging and decided to hurry up and lower the price, as the cost of oil didn’t go down that week. Where are our local politicians when we need them?  Oh yeah, that’s right, they can’t do anything about it either, or so they say.

Game commission: If the game commission wants more hunters, it needs to understand there needs to be a balance between law enforcement and overzealous game officers.

Unfortunately, the game commission neither cares about attracting new hunters, or maintaining the ones they have.

I also wonder how many people have quit hunting due to the game officers and some of their so-called “deputies.”

Maybe Mr. John Street should investigate some of the things that are going here in Western Pennsylvania -- get out and actually talk to some hunters, or previous hunters, and find out the real reasons that are troubling the hunters, and what can be done about it.

Also, since the game commission has more law enforcement powers than God, how about our elected officials taking away those powers so they are nothing but officers of wildlife, instead of Nazi-fashioned police.

Maybe that one bad apple should be removed, before more WCOs believe they can act the same way and get away with it. Elected officials, get to work!

Tolling I-80: I believe I have a solution. “If” -- and I said if -- I-80 is tolled, lets make it so any/all Pennsylvanians gets a free pass. Any business here in Pennsylvania gets a free pass. Anyone or company that does business with another business here in Pennsylvania , gets a free pass.

If you have a registration for the vehicle that you’re driving and it’s from Pennsylvania , you get a free pass.

That would keep business here and would also attract business.

Are there any downfalls to this, other than all the tourists and over the road truckers paying for the use of I-80? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Mr. Bowersox, keep writing the paper, you have made more than one person’s day with your stories. I hope they compensate you some how.

Mr. Street , do you remember what the difference is between a “dog” bear and a “pig” bear?
