Fresh fish
By Ralph Bowersox, Clarion

The summer of 1976, my wife, Norma and I went to Boulder , Colorado , to visit our son, Jack who was living there at that time.  We went to a place for dinner that had a sign out front that said, “Fresh fish.” I thought that sounded pretty good!

When the waiter came to our table, I said, “I would like to try the fresh fish.” He said, “Come on outside and pick your fish.” There was a big water tank with fish swimming around in it. He said, “Pick the one you want and I will have it cooked and on your table in about a half hour.” I pointed to one that looked pretty frisky.

After it was cooked, the waiter brought it in on a platter and set it on the table. “Eeek!” The head was still on and its eyes were wide open! It was looking straight at me! Norma said, “Lay a napkin over its head and then it can’t see you.” I said, “No way! Just a half hour ago this fish was swimming around and enjoying life. I can’t eat it! Let’s go find a Pizza Hut!”

I will never order fresh fish again! That one was a little too fresh!

P.S. Remember when your mother told you to clean your plate because there are little kids in Africa going to bed hungry? I still don’t know how that could help them.
