Opinions Teacher deserves better
I’m writing in response to the article in the Clarion
News – “Keystone rejects teacher's grievance.” I was disappointed to read the comments Keystone School
District Superintendent Jean Atkin Gool made toward teacher John Quinn. Once again Dr. Gool and the school board, it seems, played
catch up with an incident that should never have gone this far so it was turned
in to an ego trip. The statement “a three day suspension without pay”
would be proper punishment is really seems to say, I don't know the people under
me but I do know ya gotta kick ‘em when they’re down. I have known John for some years now and in that time I
observed his teaching also substituted in his classroom so I can say with
certainty he is first and foremost a professional. I cannot envision John bulling anyone and surely no student
because he cares about them and their education. Which begs the question why was this incident handled so
nonchalantly if the accusations were true? What I do see is a professional being maligned and
castigated by people over him who failed to manage. This administration has recorded more student discipline
problems and grievances than the two previous administrations combined. So I ask as a burdened taxpayer would the real school board
stand up? I think John Quinn should be lauded for his many years of professional
service. The letter should removed from his personnel file and a published
apology made for the unfounded accusations.
